In its 75th year, Constitution theme for two Kolkata pujas

12 Kolkata: In celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Indian Constitution, two Durga Puja pandals in Kolkata have chosen to highlight its significance through their themes.
Santoshpur Trikon Park’s theme, ‘Udjapan’ (Celebration), and Arjunpur Amra Sabai Club’s theme, ‘Anyo-Desh’, both focus on the Indian Constitution. Arjunpur Amra Sabai Club’s theme revolves around the fundamental rights enshrined in the Constitution and their implementation while Santoshpur Trikon Park has been working on the artistic designs of the Indian Constitution.
The Arjunpur pandal will resemble the cover page of the Indian Constitution, with the main structure standing at an impressive 25 feet. Visitors will be treated to a 7-minute show inside the pandal, depicting the fundamental rights of various groups. The idol of Goddess Durga will be positioned against the backdrop of Article 14 and Article 15, which guarantee basic fundamental rights to citizens of India.
Artist Bhabatosh Sutar said, “After 75 years of the Indian Constitution, how many of us have clear knowledge of our fundamental rights and the implementation of these fundamental rights in our daily life is the major focus of this concept. The main pandal will look like the Indian Constitution. Visitors may watch shows depicting the ri-ghts of people in various places thr-ough live performances by a group of 25 theatre artistes.” He also said that some idols, including that of the Asur, will symbolise the discrimination prevalent in society.
The Santoshpur pandal’s ‘Udjapan’ theme will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Constitution alongside the 75 years of their puja. The pandal will showcase the original pages of the Constitution, adorned with artistic touches and intricate designs created by artist Nandalal Bose. The theme aims to blend artistic sensibilities with patriotism, drawing from the nation’s rich history.
Souvik Bhattachajee, spokesperson of the puja, said, “We are celebrating 75 years of our puja, coinciding with the 75th year of the Indian Constitution. Artists Jayasri Barman and Asim Paul have been preparing the pandal with a focus on various designs of the Constitution through bricks, prints and paintings.”
