Kolkata: The West Bengal Junior Doctors’ Front (WBJDF) on Monday extended its solidarity to the Tollywood hairdresser who tried to end her life blaming it on the threat culture.
The WBJDF, in a statement, said, “We have lost a sister at the R G Kar Medical College… The reason behind her rape and murder was the unchecked corruption in the healthcare system that doctors have spoken about for years and the prevailing threat culture that has tried to shield the corruption issues… We have learnt that the hairdresser in Tollywood had taken the step to self-harm after being a victim of a threat culture… We stand in solidarity with her.We appeal to people across the board to protest against this threat culture.”
In a note she wrote before she tried to end her life, the survivor made no specific complaint against any particular guild official but mentioned nine women and two men who allegedly drove her to end her life.
Those mentioned in the note are members of Cine and Video Hair Stylist Guild, a part of Federation of Cine Technicians and Workers of Eastern India, officials said.
