• Kolkata's Layelka pond set for revamp: New ghat and beautification before Chhath puja

  • Subhas sarobar KOLKATA: The state govt has approved Rs 37 lakh to the Kolkata metropolitan development authority (KMDA) for rejuvenating Layelka pond at Regent estate including setting up a new ghat, partial renovation of the existing ghat, desilting and soft landscaping before Chhat puja.

    Ever since Rabindra and Subhas sarobar have been closed for Chhath devotees to enter during Chhath, Each year, KMDA sets up a temporary ghat at the waterbody of Layelka pond for devotees to observe their ritual.

    The authorities have set up a few permanent ghats at Nonadanga as there have been plans to set up more permanent ghats.

    Along side setting up a new ghat, the authorities will also conduct desiltation of the waterbody and will also do landscaping on the adjoining ground.
