Kolkata: A 60-year-old man who had tested positive for dengue died early on Tuesday in a private hospital off VIP Road. Even as no dengue death has been reported in Kolkata this year, this is the second such death from the city fringes this month.
Mohamad Aslam Ansari, a resident of Kaikhali, was rushed to Charnock Hospital on Sunday evening with a history of high fever for the past few days and breathing distress.A patient with diabetes, doctors found him dengue-positive, which had caused damage to liver and kidney. As his condition kept deteriorating, doctors put him on ventilation but Anasri did not survive.
“Comparing to last year, we are seeing a significant dip in dengue cases this year. While the number of patients was quite less in Aug, we are now seeing a slight increase in patient rush. But the number is not alarming.” said physician Mita Majumdar, medical superintendent.
