• BMC wards to get filtered water

  • Kolkata: The state govt on Wednesday sanctioned Rs 6.6 crore for the New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) to set up the infrastructure to supply filtered water to a large portion of Kestopur falling under BMC wards 26 and 27 bordering New Town which now mostly depends on underground water reserves.

    Officials said, once the infrastructure is being set up, a total of 1.6 million litre per day of water will be supplied to this area from the New Town water treatment plant and about 12,000 residents of the identified area will be benefitted.NKDA officials said an agency will be engaged through a formal selection process to take up the work. “The project completion deadline is about 15 months. Once the infrastructure is developed, the set-up will be handed over to BMC for operation,” said an official.
