Kolkata: Junior doctors and students of RG Kar Medical College on Wednesday jeered and chanted slogans against Trinamool youth leader Ashish Pandey and 11 others, who visited the campus to appear before an inquiry committee, set up by a special college council. Pandey, a house staff, is among 59 junior doctors and students who are being questioned on allegations of intimidation, promoting threat culture and other irregularities.
The Residents’ Doctors Association also lodged a complaint against 13 RG Kar faculty members for being part of this threat culture.
Protesting doctors squatted on the second floor of Platinum Jubilee Building and shouted “chor chor (thief thief)” as Pandey came out after being questioned. They also allegedly shoved and assaulted him.
Among the 11 others called for questioning were Abhishek Sen, a house staff, Sourav Paul, a senior resident doctor and Sarif Hasan, an intern. Many of the 59 are named in an FIR registered following a ragging complaint at RG Kar’s Maniktala hostel last year.
“Pandey was former RG Kar principal Sandip Ghosh’s right-hand man. Even after we complained to Ghosh against the terror they unleashed on us , no action was taken,” said a second-year student. “We want this threat syndicate to be rooted out of our campus.” Pandey, Hasan and Paul have also been interrogated by the CBI.
The questioning by the panel is expected to be completed by the weekend. “We hope for such punishment that none from the gang dares to terrorise us,” said a student.
