Kolkata: The four-member committee by the health department has started its inquiry against Avik De, who faces a series of allegations. The first-year general surgery PGT of IPGMER is one among the prominent faces of the North Bengal lobby that is accused of running health syndicate with influence over the functioning of the health department.
TOI had reported on Sept 13 on the health department constituting the committee with three principals — Pit Baran Chakraborty of NRS, Utpal Dan of Diamond Harbour Medical College, Ramaprasad Roy of PCS GovtMedical College Arambag along with Avijit Hazra,professor of pharmacology IPGMER.
De, who is also known to be close to former R G Kar principal Sandip Ghosh, has already been summoned by the CBI on a few occasions.
In a continuous crackdown on doctors and students who are known to be close to Ghosh and who enjoyed the patronage of the North Bengal lobby, the resident doctors’ association at R G Kar lodged a complaint against 13 faculty members whom they have accused of being part of the threat syndicate. A special panel is already enquiring plaints against 59 junior doctors and students who had allegedly run a reign of terror during Ghosh’s stint.
