Kolkata: Additional OC of Shyampukur police station, Maloy Kumar Dutta, has been appointed as the new OC of Tala PS. After the former Tala OC, Abhijit Mandal, fell ill, Dutta was managing the additional responsibilities of Tala PS. Now, he has been officially made the OC of the police station. This announcement was made by the Kolkata Police through a notification on Thursday.
The Tala police station has been in the spotlight since the rape and murder of a PGT doctor of R G Kar Hospital on Aug 9.
Meanwhile, Mandal — arrested by CBI in the R G Kar rape-murder case on charges of destruction of evidence and sent to judicial custody till Sept 30 — has fallen ill again. He has been admitted to Presidency Correctional Home Hospital where a special team of doctors has been formed for his treatment.
According to jail sources, he will be kept under observation for 48 hours. Doctors have indicated that he has high blood pressure issues and needs to be monitored.
