• Govt disbands rogi samitis, announces security audit of all hospitals in Bengal

  • In the wake of the month-long protest by junior doctors over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at the state-run RG Kar hospital, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday met health officials, principals of medical colleges and announced that police will conduct a security audit of all the medical colleges and hospital.

    She also disbanded all patient welfare committees or Rogi Kalyan Samitis in the state-run hospitals, and said their principals would head new panels along with representation of doctors, nurses and local councillors. Describing her meeting with principals of state-run medical colleges and hospitals as “positive”, Banerjee also said a mobile application would be launched to address issues and complaints of healthcare personnel across the state.

    The CM also held a meeting with the Medical Super and principals of hospitals to review the security measures in medical establishments.  Chief Secretary Manoj Pant, Home Secretary Nandini Chakraborty, Health Secretary N S Nigam, senior police officers and district magistrates were also present in the meeting. “The security audit will be done by Surajit Kar Purakayastha (Security advisor to CM and former DGP; and DGP Rajeev Kumar,” the CM said.
