Kolkata: The Kolkata Municipal Corporation buildings department has served a notice on former R G Kar Medical college principal Sandip Ghosh and his wife Sangeeta Ghosh informing that a civic tram of engineers will visit their residential building in Bleghata on Monday for an inspection.
According to a KMC buildings department official, an inspection at 83 Badan Roy Lane, a four-storey house, is necessary to ascertain whether parts of it have been constructed without an approval.
The KMC has sent the notice after receipt of complaints from a structural engineer and neighbours.
“We will send a team of civic officials to Ghosh’s house who will need to check whether additional constructions were carried out without seeking permission from our department,” said a KMC buildings department senior official posted at the headquarters.
According to the official, the house has been in the spotlight since multiple allegations of Ghosh’s involvement in the cover-up of the R G Kar Hospital rape-murder case and financial irregularities at the medical college tumbled out of the closet in the aftermath of the incident on Aug 9.
Locals, who had started agitating before his house, had also alleged illegal construction in terrace and extension of the boundary wall to usurp a civic manhole.
According to a source in KMC, an instruction has been issued for the executive engineer (buildings department) of borough III from the civic headquarters to check the details about the alleged illegal construction in the G+3 building located in Beleghata.
“We have asked the borough executive engineer to check necessary details about any deviation from the sanctioned plan,” said an official in the KMC buildings department. However, sources in KMC said the primary focus would be on illegal construction on the terrace.
“We have received a complaint about an illegal construction of a pergola on the terrace. Based on the complaint, an inquiry has been ordered. We will also need to check whether the entire building was constructed according to the plan that we had sanctioned,” said a civic official.
