Kolkata: An actor, who has been vociferous in her protest against the RG Kar crime, has allegedly received rape threats on social media for daring to “denounce several influential individuals”. She said she had lodged a complaint at the cyber cell and also sent an email to the chief minister’s office.
Officers at the Patuli police station confirmed they received an email through a male acquaintance of the woman on Saturday.“We spoke to her acquaintance. We will contact her and register an FIR once we communicate directly with her,” said a senior Lalbazar officer, adding the complainant claimed to have kept the screenshots as evidence of the threat. “The threat was allegedly issued in response to a comment she wrote on a specific post,” said an officer.
The actor, who was previously affiliated to an opposition party, asserted she had been part of the demonstrations against the RG Kar crime from the very beginning and that her protests were purely her personal sentiments and standings. “I am a girl like the young doctor. This incident can befall any girl in the current state of affairs. My protests come from that place,” she said.
The actor claimed she had contacted the Kolkata Police earlier, cops said they were yet to trace the complaint. “Once we lodge the complaint, we will write to Facebook for assistance. We will also record the actor’s statement,” said an officer.
