Kolkata: A 24-year-old woman, Piyali Mondal, was allegedly stabbed twice by two youths in Belgharia on Saturday night after she protested against lewd comments directed at her sister.
Piyali sustained deep neck injuries and was admitted to the College of Medicine and Sagore Dutta Hospital. The police are currently searching for the accused, identified as Raja Mondal and Raju Balmiki, who have gone into hiding after the incident.
According to locals, the attack happened around 8 pm when Piyali visited her sister, Priyanka Balmiki, at her in-laws’ house near Texmaco More in Belgharia.
“While my sister and I were walking near my house, two youths made obscene gestures at us. As I protested, the duo verbally abused us. My sister, Piyali, raised her voice. Suddenly, the duo attacked her with a knife and fled the scene,” Priyanka said.
