  • Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court on Monday directed two private companies to abide by the order of the additional district magistrate and district land and land reforms officer, Howrah, directing them to stop filling up a water body near Nabanna after it was found that they had not created a compensatory water body, as promised.

The order stated that the compensatory water body that the private companies claimed to have created existed before 2014.

Petitioners’ counsel contended that in 2014, the companies were granted the permission considering that the compensatory water body will be created at 9.57 decimal area under Jagacha police station in Howrah which is required under the West Bengal Inland Fisheries Act, 1984.

The two companies were directed to stop filling up the water body and restore it. It was communicated to the Shibpur police station OC and the two companies by the officer-in-charge of town survey unit, Howrah.
