Kolkata: Commissioner of Kolkata Police Manoj Kumar Verma on Tuesday issued a prohibitory order against rallies — BNSS 163 — around Bidhan Market under Maidan police station, thereby extending the restriction in place between Esplanade and Victoria House. Though Lalbazar insisted that this was a regular order that had merely been extended by 60 days, some feel it has been reissued to provide relief to shoppers and office-goers prior to the pujas.
The cops also renewed a number of older orders, including asking cyber cafes to not allow patrons without photo ID, rules related to tenants and protecting the environment.
