  • JUNIOR DOCTORS took to the streets of Kolkata again on Wednesday to protest against the R G Kar rape and murder case. As they marched from College Square to Dharmatala, senior doctors also joined the rally, apart from the general public.

Debashis Halder, a representative of the protesting junior doctors, claimed that a section in the government is trying to make the junior doctors “look like public enemies.”

“The death of a patient is as saddening to his family as it is to a doctor and health worker. Do you know why we were forced to resume the strike? We wanted to see a positive approach  But now the state government is not showing that.” He added, “We are not public enemies. We want to work now. But if the demands are not met, on what basis we shall join work? How do we feel safe ? We give time. We will count every hour.”

Junior doctors also expressed doubts over the Central Bureau of Investigation’s investigation in the case.

“If necessary, we will go to Delhi. We will raise our voices together. The state government is not the only one that we are fighting against through this protest for our legit demands but this pressure should be felt by the Central Bureau of Investigation as well,” said Halder.

Several organisations of senior doctors were also present at the junior doctors’ rally on Wednesday.

Actor Sohini Sarkar also joined the procession. She said, “We understand that some are watching out for their own interests. The year 2026 is ahead. It will be beneficial for them if they can reach somewhere using this matter. Ordinary citizens can also understand that,” she said.
