• Sporadic showers & persistent cloud cover during puja: Met

  • Kolkata: The city plunged into darkness as a thick cloud cover hovered over Kolkata on Thursday afternoon. The Met office has predicted light-to-moderate showers during puja across south Bengal.

The rain and thundershowers, however, could be sporadic and restricted to some places from Oct 10-13. But, a cloud cover will persist across Kolkata and its neighbouring districts during the festival, said the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC).

Clouds from an upper air circulation in southeast Bangladesh and a trough are set to form a low-pressure area over north Bay of Bengal on Friday. Most parts of south Bengal are likely to receive light-to-moderate showers under the influence of the low-pressure over the next two days, said RMC weather scientist HR Biswas.

While a few areas could receive heavy rain and thundershowers, most districts, including Kolkata, could receive intermittent drizzles and occasional heavy spells, Biswas added. North Bengal, too, is set to receive light-to-moderate rain during the period. The showers are set to be more widespread and heavier from Friday till Sunday, said weathermen. .
