Kolkata: The Kolkata Police has received a complaint on social media, claiming that a pillion rider was allegedly threatened and abused by an app biker near the Patipukur underpass recently. This comes at a time when the Kolkata Police has raised safety concerns for commuters availing app bike services as often the two-wheelers lack commercial number plates and are difficult to trace.
Though the cops initiated an inquiry after receiving the complaint on social media, they have also asked the victim to lodge a formal complaint with the police station. According to V Jha, he had booked an app bike to travel from Khudiram Bose Road to Kalindi Housing Estate around 7.10 pm on Sept 28. He claimed that the biker, who had arrived late, misbehaved with him. Cops suspect that the duo might have had an argument over the fare.
Jha alleged that he was threatened by the biker, in full public view, and was forced to alight from the vehicle midway. He was ‘completely traumatized’ after the biker ‘abused him for over 15 minutes.’
