Kolkata: Organisers of New Town Sarbojanin Durga Puja committee had to stop visitors’ entry for over an hour after power supply to the pandal premises snapped around 8 pm on Friday. Organisers arranged additional generators to temporarily restore electricity and prevent a mishap.
WBSEDCL officials said a load distribution problem had led to the blackout. “There was an overload issue in one of the transformers.
After the load was distributed, power was restored,” an official said.
In a separate incident, a flashover caused by lightning plunged pockets around Keshtopur and Baguiati into darkness around 8.30 pm. WBSEDCL officials said power was restored within a few minutes.
Power outages are extremely rare during the festival as both CESC and WBSEDCL take measures and keep repair teams ready to tackle any blackout.
