• ‘Threat culture’: RG Kar council expels 10

  • Kolkata: Ten of the 59 interns, house staff and senior residents of R G Kar Hospital, who were charged on multiple counts, were expelled from the institute till further notice by the Special College Council which held a meeting on Saturday. The accused were charged with threatening students, physical and mental torture, verbal abuse, sexual harassment, buying drugs and alcohol and performing obscene acts at the boys’ hostel other than various other charges.

    Names of these 10 have also been sent to West Bengal Medical Council for evaluation of their medical registration certificates.

    Names of 49 others, who have been charged under three other categories, will be forwarded to the internal complaints committee of RG Kar and also to the anti-ragging committee for investigation and disciplinary action.

    The expelled include house staff Ashish Pandey, who is now in CBI custody, senior resident Sourav Paul, house staff Abhishek Sen and Ayushree Thapa, interns Nayan Bagchi, Sarif Hasan and Neelagni Debnath. The list also mentions names of Amarendra Singh, Tanweer Ahmed Kazi and Satpal Singh.

    Meanwhile, Debanjan Dhar, who is attached to BC Roy Hospital, has been debarred from entering RG Kar Hospital.
