  • Kolkata: The National Library of India (NLI) is set to celebrate the recent recognition of Bengali as a classical language, a historic moment for the language and its rich literary tradition. NLI, which houses the world’s largest collection of Bengali literature, will mark this significant achievement through a series of programmes.

“Durga Puja is a global festival that symbolizes the strength and cultural richness of Bengal, and this recognition adds to the pride of Bengalis across the globe,” said an NLI official.

The recognition of Bengali as a classical language was part of a broader decision by the Union Cabinet on Oct 3, 2024. TNN
