Grievance panel gets 70 plaints in 4 days, submits report to govt

Kolkata: The state-level grievance redress panel by the state has submitted its preliminary report to the Bengal government based on over 70 doctors’ complaints it received on e-mail since its formation on Oct 1.
The plaints ranged from threats received by junior doctors, multiple irregularities in the system’s functioning and also those against the West Bengal Health Recruitment Board.“Most of the plaints are on threat culture. Some of these are already being probed by respective hospitals. Other complaints include appointment irregularities. Many of these issues have not been addressed — and were kept lingering — for long,” an officer said.
According to sources, the seven-member panel has already given its feedback to the state to act on the complaints. Sources also said senior state officials have already gone through the report, and actions are likely soon. “The report is confidential and a preliminary assessment by the panel on short- and long-term suggestions. The panel has been functioning for the past four days (Oct 2 being a holiday),” a senior state official said.
According to him, the committee has also been tasked to give regular feedbacks to the state. “This is in addition to resolve the complaints being received,” he said.
