  • Kolkata: The parents of the RG Kar rape-murder victim said they would sit in a demonstration during the Durga Puja, starting from Shashthi. They will protest in front of their Sodepur residence, demanding justice for their daughter.

They also said that no political figure would be allowed on the dharna mancha, ensuring that the focus remained solely on their demand for justice.

The father of the 31-year-old second-year PGT doctor said: “We used to celebrate Durga Puja at home with great joy and my daughter even organized it herself. This year, however, we are setting up a dharna mancha in front of our house. From Shashthi to Dashami, we, the family members, will protest there. We haven’t invited anyone, but anyone who wants to join is welcome. However, they must not take the stage as we want to avoid any political influences.”

On junior doctors’ hunger strike, he said, “There is an issue of not receiving justice and they had set a deadline for the govt. However, the govt said nothing. The doctors had sent a letter regarding bio-toilets, but no arrangement was made. I do not understand why the govt is not being humane on these issues.”

The victim’s mother, however, urged the CM to resolve the issues through discussions.
