“There is a possibility of heavy rain in North Bengal, especially in Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, and Jalpaiguri districts. Rain is also likely in Cooch Behar, Malda, and South Dinajpur districts,” said Somnath Dutta, the Regional Director of the Alipore Meteorological Department, while talking to reporters.
For South Bengal, including Kolkata, the forecast predicts light to moderate rain with thundershowers.
The districts most likely to experience heavy rainfall are North and South 24 Parganas, Kolkata, Hooghly, Purba Bardhaman, Nadia, Birbhum, and Murshidabad. “The weather is expected to improve from Monday. There is no chance of heavy rain from Monday to Friday. The sky will mostly be partly cloudy, with a slight chance of light rain or scattered thundershowers in some districts,” said Dutt. The heavy rainfall is attributed to the active monsoon axis and a strong cyclone over the northern part of Ganga and northern Bangladesh.
