  • Kolkata: The Kolkata Police, in collaboration with the Child Welfare Committee and several NGOs, have launched a special initiative, called ‘Bondhu Kolkata’, to help report missing children, women and elderly from pandals and trace them at the earliest. A missing person’s family can post on Kolkata Police’s Facebook page, seeking help. Cops said this service will be available from 4 pm to 4 am from Oct 8 to 12.

According to joint CP (Headquarters), Meeraj Khalid, a special number 9163737373 has been created for this purpose.

In addition, anyone can dial 100 or 1098 to lodge the initial complaint. The complaints can be posted on KP’s Facebook page. The post should have a description of the missing person, along with his/her name, age, physical appearance, the spot and time from where he/she went missing. The person’s photo and a family’s contact number is a must.

Lalbazar, has also repeatedly asked all the cops to stick to the SOP on missing persons. In addition, all details of missing children and persons are being shared regularly with traffic cops as they are deployed on the roads for maximum duration. “In sensitive cases — especially where children are involved — emotions can run high. It is important to attend to them immediately and let the victim’s family know that the intent of the police is to help them rather than ask them to fend for themselves,” said a joint commissioner.
