Kolkata: Senior city doctors from govt and private hospitals on Tuesday appealed to the state to consider the demands of junior doctors and arrive at ‘a mutually acceptable solution to end the impasse before it spirals out of control’.
“As the guardians of the profession, we are responding to the call of our conscience and on grounds of humanism. As we celebrate the puja, these young doctors are fasting for a cause.
As teachers and seniors, our hearts go out to them,” said veteran doctor Sukumar Mukherjee at a press meet.
Veteran gastroenterologist Sujit Kar Purakayastha said a section of doctors were going wrong, too. “It is difficult to watch our juniors fast like this. So, we appeal to the administration to arrange a meeting and figure out a solution,” he added. The meet was also attended by veteran medic Debendranath Guha Majumdar, cardiologist Anjan Lal Datta, critical care expert Ajoy Sarkar, Ashokananda Konar, paediatrician Swati Chakraborty and neurologist Aurobindo Mukhopadyay. tnn
