  • Kolkata: The weakness is apparent on the faces of the seven junior doctors, who have been on a hunger-strike since Saturday night, but they claimed their spirit was high. They said they were drawing strength from the mass. Over 100 hours into the fast, their vitals—BP and blood glucose concentration count—have been showing a decline.

“Physically, I am a little weaker but morally, I am 200% up...

Our teachers’ mass resignation, the public encouragement and our colleagues are keeping me going,” said Anustup Mukherjee, first-year PDT at MCH. Some complained of abdomen pain and headache at times, and some took help to walk to the wash room. “Weakness has set in to some extent, along with muscle cramp. But we will continue this till our demands are met,” said Aniket Mahata, third-year PGT at RG Kar. Bengal governor CV Ananda Bose visited the junior doctors in the evening. —Sumati Yengkhom
