  • Kolkata: The 19-year-old media management student, Harsh Choudhury — also a part-time model — who was found dead outside a popular gym located on Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Road in Naktala on Oct 3, had died by suicide, said police on Wednesday.

Choudhury had fallen from a height and then succumbed to his injuries, cops had said on Friday. However, they said that they have not been able to pinpoint the reason why the college student took such a decision.

Cops said preliminary forensic and postmortem report too are indicative of a suicide.

“No complaint of foul play from the family has been received. Even the reason why he took such a decision is unclear. Family and friends unable to say anything specific,” said a senior police officer.

Earlier, notices were sent asking at least four of his gym mates to join investigations immediately, said cops. Investigators are likely to speak to the victim’s mother Anjana Choudhury extensively again as she was the first to notice her son lying unconscious beside the gym gate. “If he had entered the gym, someone must and ought to have seen him,” said a cop.

“We have recovered the slippers he was wearing at the time he left his residence the last time, from inside the gym building. We have reasons to believe he climbed up to the terrace and then jumped,” said an officer.

Cops said that the manner in which CCTV cameras have been found non-functional has affected the probe. “The CCTV camera inside the gym building is not functional. Similarly, the CCTV camera of a shop located opposite this building which could have provided leads is not working. Under such circumstances, we are collecting statements and verifying them,” said an investigating officer.
