A man was arrested in West Bengal’s Bankura district on Friday after he allegedly entered the girls’ hostel of Bankura Sammilani Medical College and Hospital and made indecent gestures in front of a hostel inmate.
The security lapse was reported amid continuing protests by junior doctors seeking justice in the R G Kar rape-murder case.
According to the hostel inmates, the man climbed over a wall to enter the ladies’ hostel and made his way to the washroom. After a woman who entered the washroom saw him, he allegedly started making indecent gestures. After she shouted for help, other hostellers rushed to the spot and caught the man, following which the police were alerted.
Following the incident, women doctors protested in front of the institute’s principal, demanding proper security arrangements at the hostel.
Sources said that a similar incident took place at the college last week when an outsider entered the girls’ hostel. At the time, the police and the medical college administration had assured that proper security arrangements would be put in place, sources added.
