Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court on Monday sought a report from Bengal govt on the Oct 7 blast at a private Birbhum coal mine that left seven miners dead. The HC was hearing a petition seeking NIA probe into the incident.
A vacation bench of justices Tirthankar Ghosh and Uday Kumar asked the state to submit a report detailing the nature of the blast and who was responsible for the incident at the mine owned by Gangaramchak Mining Private Ltd (GMPL) at Birbhum’s Khoyrasole.
The state govt was also asked to submit a forensic report on the matter, if possible. The state will have to submit the report on Nov 5, the next hearing date.
On NIA probe demand, HC noted that since the incident took place in a coal mine area and the state had already initiated a case, it would be appropriate for the state to file its report first. tnn & agencies
