  • Kolkata/Behrampore: The Calcutta HC on Monday asked Bengal advocate general Kishore Datta to ensure the postmortem of a nine-year-old rape and murder victim from Farakka is carried out in the presence of a judicial magistrate, report Subrata Chattoraj & Sukumar Mahato. The directive came in response to a plea explaining that the postmortem had been delayed due to the family’s demand for a magistrate’s presence during the procedure.

Datta assured the court that the public prosecutor would be notified to file the necessary request with the local court.

According to the FIR, the victim’s father reported that on Oct 13, a local resident named Dinu Haldar abducted, raped and murdered his daughter. Locals beat Haldar up before police arrested him. During a search at his home, the body of the girl was found stuffed in a sack. The body bore injuries.
