Kolkata: Three persons, including a constable of Kolkata Police (KP) and his wife, a panchayat member, were arrested in connection with the alleged rape and subsequent death of a 30-year-old woman, who was their tenant at Habra.
The victim’s husband was also arrested after her brother lodged a complaint of torture against him.
Police said the victim was allegedly raped by her landlord Jayanta Biswas — posted as a KP driver — on Sept 5.
The woman was allegedly threatened with dire consequences by Biswas and his wife Sanchita, a member of Habra’s Kumro gram panchayat after shehad lodged an FIR .
“Biswas had gone into hiding since the rape complaint was lodged against him in Sept. After the woman’s body was found late on Friday night, the victim’s brother lodged a complaint against her husband for torturing her. Then all the three accused, including Biswas, his wife and the victim’s husband were arrested on Monday,” a senior police officer of the Barasat district police said.
