  • Kolkata: Large parts of north and central Kolkata, including Ultadanga, Maniktala, Beleghata, Sealdah, Amherst Street and C R Avenue, were flooded after heavy spells of rain since Wednesday afternoon. Places in south Kolkata, such as Ballygunge, Jodhpur Park, Lake Gardens, Golf Green and Behala, received relatively less rain.

Going by the KMC rainfall data, residents of Muktarambabu Street, Thanthania, MG Road, College Street, Bidhan Sarani, parts of EM Bypass had to bear the brunt of waterlogging for longer hours after a downpour in the afternoon.

Though the KMC drainage department was caught off guard after an intense spell of rain in the afternoon, the executive engineers were told to make all heavy-duty pumps operational to flush out rainwater from the flooded north Kolkata streets.
