  • Kolkata: Former RG Kar principal Sandip Ghosh, who has been arrested by the CBI in connection with financial irregularities at the hospital, has moved Calcutta High Court, saying a nationalised bank is not allowing him to break his fixed deposit.

According to a source, Ghosh wanted to break the FD for his legal and other personal payments. As he was unable to do so, he filed a case against the bank. His appeal has been listed before the vacation bench of Justice Bivas Pattanayak for hearing on Friday.

The ED is probing alleged financial irregularities at RG Kar and Ghosh and his relatives are under the scanner for alleged money laundering.

The CBI on Monday submitted the fifth status report of the probe in Supreme Court. The SC had said, “Further probe, both in the case of the Aug 9 incident and financial irregularities, will continue. The court shall be apprised on further status. The status report will be submitted in three weeks.”

Ghosh had earlier approached the Calcutta HC, seeking judicial intervention to prevent further dissemination of “false and defamatory content” by media outlets. In the petition, it was alleged that at around 1 am on Aug 15, a mob had gathered outside his residence. The next day, Ghosh’s family approached the bench of Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj, seeking police protection.
