Kolkata: Metro Railway registered its highest ridership on Sasthi, breaching the 9-lakh milestone on a single day.
“We carried 9.6 lakh commuters on a single day on Sasthi (Oct 9). This figure surpassed all previous records of Metro’s daily rider count,” Metro Railway GM P Uday Kumar Reddy said on Friday.
The North-South or the Blue line alone carried around 8.5 lakh passengers on an average on Chaturthi, Panchami and Sasthi.“Three lines were operational this puja — North-South and Green line 1 and 2 (East-West Metro’s Sector V-Sealdah section) and the underground section,” an official said. On Oct 18, 2023, which was Chaturthi, N-S Metro carried 7.5 lakh passengers. “Definitely, the figure for North-South was higher than last year’s,” the official added.
In all, metro carried 50.5 lakh passengers from Chaturthi (last Monday) to Dashami (Saturday).
