Kolkata: In a burglary on Roy Bahadur Road, Behala, thieves broke into a house by cutting the kitchen window grille and made off with cash and gold jewelry worth around Rs 5 lakh. The residents were not at the house during the incident. Police are reviewing CCTV footage, though no arrests have been made so far. Meanwhile, two more thefts were reported in the nearby Haridevpur police station area.
It is reported that the homeowner, a private firm employee, left for work, and his wife, a homemaker, went out with their two daughters.
In the evening, the man returned, unlocked the front door, and found the entire house in disarray, with the wardrobe lock broken and gold necklaces, bangles, earrings, and cash missing.
He reported the incident to the Behala police. The cops found that the grille on one side of the kitchen had been cut, and the thieves entered by sliding the window open. From CCTV footage, the police found that three individuals had entered the house. Investigators are using this footage to try to apprehend the suspects. They suspect that the culprits might be familiar with the house and are also checking if any domestic help frequented the building. — Dwaipayan Ghosh
