Kolkata: Prodded by CM Mamata Banerjee, the KMC engineering department had first set a July deadline for completion of work on the skywalk. This deadline was later revised to Aug-end, but that too was missed.
“We have now completed deck casting and flooring of the superstructure. We have taken up installation of elevators and escalators. Work on restoration and relaying of roads and pavements adjoining the Kalighat temple is on the verge of completion,” a KMC official said.
KMC sources said once the skywalk is complete, roads that were damaged during piling work may have to be reconstructed. Kali Temple Road, Sadananda Road and Gurupada Halder Road are among the roads that the civic body plans to relay. In Dec 2023, the state had approved Rs 5.3 crore for the reconstruction of roads and pavements around Kalighat temple. Earlier, the state had sanctioned Rs 82.6 crore for the construction of the skywalk.
