Kolkata: The Kolkata traffic police has arrested a man who had tampered with his two-wheeler’s licence plate in order to avoid prosecution. Cops are investigating if the bike was used to commit crimes.
On Sept 30, the owner of a two-wheeler bearing a registration number ending with 4485 e-mailed the DC (traffic) to say that another vehicle was illegally using an identical number, though the number was registered in the complainant’s name.
As a result, the owner had received challans for traffic violations made by the other vehicle ,” said an officer.
The victim came to know of the violation when he checked the image that is attached with the challan link sent to him. While the number plate was that of his vehicle, the two-wheeler didn’t belong to him. The actual registration number of the offending vehicle ended with 4495. - Dwaipayan Ghosh
