• MR Bangur tops green category in state award

  • Kolkata: Suri and Balurghat district hospitals, along with MR Bangur Hospital, were declared the top winners as the state govt announced its Kayakalp Awards 2024-25 for health facilities in Bengal. While the Suri and Balurghat hospitals were joint winners, receiving a cash award of Rs 25 lakh each, MR Bangur won in the eco-friendly category with a cash prize of Rs 13 lakh.

    The state has honoured 2,324 health facilities with Kayakalp Award in different categories, after assessing them on various parameters. The winners’ list includes 14 district hospitals, 10 super speciality hospitals, 30 sub-divisional hospitals, 18 state general hospitals, 287 rural hospitals and block primary health centres, 678 PHCs and 1,287 health wellness centres, all of which scored over 70%.

    “Kayakalp Award, which is bestowed on health institutes for their exemplary performance, aims at enhancing and fostering cleanliness, hygiene, waste management, and infection-control practices in public health facilities,” an official said. The parameters include the hospitals’ upkeep, hygiene, waste management, infection control and support services. Toilets, drinking water and OPDs were checked, said an official.

    Khejurberia Rural Hospital in E Midnapore and Bangitola Rural Hospital, Malda jointly topped the rural hospital list, each getting Rs 7.5 lakh. Runners-up were Baranagar Subdivisional Hospital and Mangalbari Rural Hospital, Jalpaiguri, with Rs 5 lakh each. Among high-scorers were Vidyasagar Hospital, Behala, Sonapur RH, Jamtara BPHC, Memari RH in E Burdwan, Taki Hospital, Fulia Hospital and Dhupguri Hospital, all scoring over 90%.
