  • The Alipore Meteorological Department has issued a rain forecast in West Bengal for the coming week, with heavy rainfall in some areas.

The sea conditions are also expected to be rough to very rough. Fishermen are advised to avoid venturing into deep waters in these areas during the specified period.

A low-pressure area is expected to form over the central Bay of Bengal around October 22, which is likely to intensify into a depression by October 24.

This weather system is likely to bring light to moderate rainfall, with isolated heavy rainfall in the state next week, the weather office said.

“An upper air cyclonic circulation is very likely to form over the North Andaman Sea around October 20. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over Central Bay of Bengal around October 22, thereafter, it is likely to move northwestwards and intensify further into a depression by October 24,” said the weather department.

“Under its influence light to moderate rainfall at many places with isolated heavy rainfall is likely to commence over east Bengal during October 23 & 24,” it further added.

While there is no immediate warning for the coastal regions, squally weather with wind speeds of 35-45 kmph (gusting up to 55 kmph) is anticipated in the central and southern parts of the Bay of Bengal on October 22-23.

Meanwhile, Kolkata on Friday experienced a heavy downpour lasting for nearly an hour due to a low-pressure system.
