• Airport metro dream may come true in March
    Times of India | 23 October 2024
  • Kolkata: The much-anticipated airport metro link is expected to start operations in March 2025. The Yellow Line’s Noapara-Dum Dum Cantonment section recently received the safety nod from the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) for commercial operations on the 3 km stretch. However, Metro Railway revised its plans and is extending the Yellow Line’s Phase-I by an additional 4 km from Dum Dum Cantonment to the airport.

The idea is to allow seamless commutes to the airport using the metro system. Metro Railway general manager P Uday Kumar Reddy on Monday conducted a trolley inspection along the 4 km Dum Dum Cantonment-Airport stretch, signifying the progress made in track-laying for this section.

With this, the Blue Line will allow residents from both the southern and northern fringes to access the airport. Residents along EM Bypass can utilise the Orange Line to reach New Garia and switch lines at Noapara to reach airport.
