  • Kolkata: Parents of the 31-year-old R G Kar rape-murder victim on Tuesday sought an appointment with Union home minister Amit Shah and expressed the family’s “immense mental pressure and helplessness”. In an email, the father of the victim sought Shah’s “insight, guidance, and help”.

“I am the father of Abhaya, and I am writing to request an appointment with you at your convenience or at any other location you may suggest.

After that heinous unforeseen incident happened to our daughter, we are going through tremendous mental pressure and feeling helpless now,” he wrote.

He further requested a brief meeting with Shah, claiming that his experience and guidance would be invaluable in their situation. “I, along with my wife, want to meet you to discuss a few things regarding the situation and pray for your guidance and help. I would be truly grateful for the opportunity to speak with you and gain your insights on the issue, as I believe your experience and guidance would be invaluable,” he added.

The victim’s mother later expressed hope in securing an appointment with Shah and put forward an appeal to him in their pursuit of justice.

“It is absolutely a discretion of the Union home ministry. We cannot comment,” said Samik Bhattacharya, Bengal BJP spokesperson.
