Kolkata: Amid their drive against tinted films on vehicle windowpanes, police have been receiving complaints about curtains being used on 16- and 24-seater minibuses, operated by app-based ride providers.
One such complaint was posted on Kolkata Traffic Police’s X handle. “Are buses allowed to have curtains inside? This bus has curtains throughout. If anything untoward happens within the bus, who will be responsible? The bus was seen moving at Tollygunge at 8.45 AM,” posted complainant, Asish.
Sources at Beliaghata and East traffic guards said they would soon conduct raids. Cops are also considering approaching the app companies to remind them to ensure their partners followed the rules.
A private bus operator, however, claimed passengers insisted on the curtains to keep sun rays out. “I have asked all my bus drivers to remove curtains, but there might be some who have not done so yet,” he said.
A questionnaire has been mailed to the aggregators and TOI is awaiting their responses. A representative of one such company said those using their app must adhere to all rules. “We will take action on specific complaints,” she said.
