Some schools shift online, some declare holiday today

Kolkata: Several city schools had shifted online due to the weather conditions on Thursday and those that remained open for offline classes saw reduced attendance. The school education department, in its notice on Tuesday, announced suspension of physical classes in South and North 24 Parganas, East and West Midnapore, Jhargram, Bankura, Hooghly, Howrah and Kolkata.
DPS Ruby Park, South Point and Calcutta Boys’ School have shifted to online classes. However, among those that were open for physical classes on Thursday, some decided to either shift online or declare a holiday on Friday. Principal Ranjan Mitter of Future Foundation School, which has declared a holiday on Friday, said, “ We will not take any risk on Friday as we don’t know what the road conditions will be.”
DPS Newtown and Loreto Day School shifted to online classes for Friday. Rammohan Mission School’s half-yearly results for classes VIII and X, scheduled to be published on Friday, will be declared on Wednesday, and classes IX, XI and XII will not have classes on Friday and Saturday. South City International School decided late on Wednesday to shift classes online. “We received requests from parents to shift classes to online mode,” said principal Satabdi Bhattacharjee.
Modern High, DPS Mega City and DPS Newtown, that were open on Thursday, clocked almost normal attendance. Techno India Group Public School, Garia, principal Tania Sen said, “Due to the inclement weather, we shifted to online classes at short notice.”
CU’s campuses were open but attendance was thin. Entrance tests for the master’s courses were held as scheduled. Most colleges, however, are still off for puja vacation.
