  • Kolkata: Ahead of the impending landfall of cyclone Dana, the Alipore zoo has lined up precautionary measures to ensure the safety of its animals. A dedicated team of 15 skilled individuals has been assembled and stands ready to efficiently handle any instances of tree-felling that may arise due to the cyclone’s impact.

Zoo director Subhankar Sengupta said the animals have been securely placed within their respective shelters.“For animals such as deer, which stay in open spaces, the shelter doors have been left open to allow them the flexibility to seek refuge as needed,” he added. All overhead water tanks have also been filled to maximum capacity in anticipation of any potential water crisis that may emerge in the aftermath of the cyclone, he said adding that the zoo will continue to remain open to visitors on Friday.

“Our security personnel, animal attendants, garden attendants and vets, are engaged in monitoring and stand ready to tackle any emergency that may arise,” he added.
