Kolkata: A sub-inspector of Tala PS — Sanjib Ghosh — has been removed as the investigating officer in a case of death due to assault after the victim’s family accused him of going “soft” on an accused.
The cop, though, claimed he had followed the law book and escalated the charges when he came to know of the death, more than three weeks after the victim — Sanjay Sarkar — was assaulted near Tala post office on Sept 6.
The injured person’s family has claimed that despite repeated plaints by them saying accused Arindam Dutta was roaming free after bail, the first investigating officer allegedly ignored them.
On the day Sarkar died, the IO reportedly appeared in court to seek bail cancellation. “The OC of Tala PS has removed the IO. A case under non-bailable sections has also been filed,” said an officer. tnn
