  • Representative Image HOWRAH: A late-night brawl at a bar in Kolkata's Howrah station area resulted in injuries to four people on Sunday.

The incident escalated when police officers intervened and were attacked as well.

Two bartenders sustained injuries after having liquor bottles broken over their heads, with two victims requiring hospitalisation.

According to police reports, the altercation began over allegations of extortion involving hotelier and TMC leader Tinku Sonkar.

When bar staff protested, they were assaulted, leading to a continuation of the fight outside the bar.

The attackers, reportedly led by Tinku Sonkar and his associates, assaulted two bartenders with liquor bottles and attacked bar staff on the street.

Upon receiving the distress call, officers from Golabari Station responded but were also assaulted, resulting in injuries to two constables.

North Howrah TMC MLA Gautam Chowdhury defended Tinku, calling the allegations unfounded and suggesting that the conflict stemmed from a dispute between bar staff and a promoter's group, stating that Tinku was attempting to de-escalate the situation.
