123 Burdwan : Two Railway Protection Force (RPF) constables saved the life of a 58-year-old passenger stuck between a platform and a moving train at Burdwan's railway station in East Burdwan district on Monday. The incident occurred when the passenger attempted to de-board the moving Ganga Sagar Express, leading to him slipping at Platform No. 5.
RPF inspector at East Burdwan railway station, Manaj Kumar Mouriya, said, "Lady constable Nibha Kumari and constable Yogesh Kumar of RPF Post Burdwan were on passenger security duty at Platform No. 5 when Train No. 13186 Dn (Ganga Sagar Express) arrived at 03:54 hrs and began to depart at 04:00 hrs. During the train's departure, lady constable Kumari noticed a male passenger attempting to de-board the moving train, leading to a slip that put him in immediate danger. Reacting swiftly, Nibha Kumari and constable Yogesh Kumar managed to save the passenger's life by pulling him away from the edge, preventing him from being crushed between the train and the platform."
The passenger, identified as Shailendra Choudhary is from Raghopur Itahar, PO Barha, Madhubani (Bihar), and was travelling from Madhubani to Bandel, sustained minor leg injuries but declined medical assistance when offered.
Shailendra Choudhary told TOI, "I was coming from Madhubani by the down Ganga Sagar Express, and my destination was Rishra in Hooghly. The train was entering Platform No. 5 at Burdwan railway station, while the Burdwan-Howrah Main Line local was stranded on Platform No. 4. I thought if I caught the Main Line local, I could reach Rishra sooner. So, I attempted to get off the moving train, but I lost my balance and got stuck between the train and the platform. The RPF officers quickly pulled me up and rescued me. I am incredibly grateful to them as they saved me from a major accident." He further said, "I safely reached my destination at Rishra and I am ok."
