Kolkata: A female sub-inspector was ‘closed' on Wednesday after she accused the OC of misconduct over accommodation arrangements for female cops.
The SI claimed that when she returned from her leave to Nadial PS, she found additional beds in her room. Incensed at others being allowed into her room in her absence, she entered into a verbal altercation with the OC. The latter sent a report of the SI's behaviour to the DC (port) on Wednesday. Thereafter, a decision was taken to close the SI for insubordination.
On Thursday, the SI sat in protest on the road near a timber depot. Later, she was taken away in a cop vehicle to an "adjoining police station".
Human rights organisation APDR demanded a fair probe, claiming the complaints against the OC were grave in nature and pertained to sexual harassment at the workplace.
Police said following the deployment of 750 additional female cops in police stations in the past week, more than one person have had to be allocated to rooms in barracks that were previously occupied by a single person. Hence, the allocation of another female cop to the room in which the SI was staying, cops said.
DC Port Harikrishna Pal said none of the plaints the SI had submitted earlier involved any criminal offence. "No new complaints have been filed."
