Kolkata: Salt Lake and Rajarhat-Gopalpur have logged more than 30 new dengue cases for the fourth consecutive week. While the BMC areas reported 36 fresh dengue patients last week, the three weeks before that recorded 30, 37 and 35 new cases.
BMC's total dengue figure so far this year is 246, 138 cases being reported last month, the highest this year. Among those, 30 cases were reported from SOS Children's Village, an orphanage at BK Block in Salt Lake. BMC launched an intensive clean-up drive on the premises of the orphanage and also held medical camps till the cases were arrested. "No more residents there were diagnosed with dengue," said a civic official.
Sept saw 61 dengue cases and Aug 21 in the BMC area.
"Compared to the last two years, when there was a severe dengue outbreak, the number of cases has been low so far this year," the official said.
Last year, BMC reported 3,956 dengue cases. In 2022, it recorded 4,222 cases, the highest since 2017.
