Kolkata: A 55-year-old woman died after being hit by a private bus near the eastern slope of No. 4 bridge off EM Bypass around 5.13 pm on Sunday. The woman, Nazmi Khatun, a resident of Ekbalpore, was walking down the road when she met with the fatal accident. She sustained multiple injuries. She was taken to the Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital, where she was declared brought dead. Cops held the driver and impounded the bus plying on the Shyambazar-Malancha route.
On Monday, two bikers and two pillion riders were injured in four accidents in the city. Around 9.36 am, biker Dhiraj Kumar Dubey (24), a resident of Shibpur in Howrah, was injured when a truck hit him on the Hooghly bridge. He was admitted to SSKM Hospital. He was wearing a helmet when the accident happened.
A helmetless biker, Gouranga Hazra (23), a resident of Pathakpara in Behala, lost control and skidded on Upen Banerjee Road under Parnasree PS around 4.18 am on Monday. He was admitted to SSKM Hospital with multiple injuries.
Around 11.50 am, a car's door was opened suddenly when a bike was passing by at College Street. Oighrig Mukherjee (5) from Motijhil Lane, who was riding pillion on the bike, fell down on the road and was injured. He was taken to Medical College and Hospital. In another accident, pillion rider Sayantika Ghosh (24), a resident of Maheshtala, was injured when the two-wheeler lost control and hit a taxi at the crossing of Hazra Road and Harish Mukherjee Road around 10.10 am. She was taken to SSKM Hospital.
